Why the Homework Club matters
Government schools in Nepal teach in Nepali, but further education and jobs require English. For children from the poorest families, that gap can be the difference between opportunity and none.
Our Homework Club bridges it. Children receive professional tuition, English language support, and the consistent encouragement that keeps them engaged in education all the way through to their School Leaving Certificate at 16.
The project has been running since 2012, set up by David and Jackie Britten while living in Nepal. It is run by a local team in Narayangarh, Nepalis supporting their own community.

Funds a child’s full place at the Homework Club. We ask for a 12-month commitment so every child has stability and continuity in their learning.

How sponsorship works
Your £6 goes into the Homework Club — not to one named child
We don’t assign sponsors to individual children. Instead, every sponsorship contribution goes into the Homework Club as a whole, funding places for the children who need it most. This means 100% of your money goes to the programme, the club remains stable regardless of individual circumstances, and no child is ever left without support if a sponsor stops giving. You’ll know that your £6 is directly funding a real child’s place, we just can’t tell you which one, and we think that’s the right way to do it.
Common questions
Yes, you are very welcome to give more. Any amount above £6 funds additional places or supports the wider running of the Homework Club. Simply set up your Just Giving or standing order for whatever amount feels right.
We ask for a year’s commitment because it gives children stability, knowing their place is secure for a full academic year makes a real difference. That said, life happens, and we understand if circumstances change. Just let us know.
If you are a UK taxpayer, we can claim Gift Aid on your donation, boosting the value of your £6 by £1.50. (25p for every £1) at no extra cost to you. Please indicate this when you set up your sponsorship.
